ARCHITECTURAL VISUAL BRIEF GUIDE

Creating an Architectural brief doesn’t need to take a lot of time. Here are some things to consider to help you get the visuals you actually want—whether stills, film, or both.


1. PROJECT OVERVIEW

  • Name of project/s:

  • Stage of completion: (e.g. recently handed over, pre-opening, post-occupancy)

  • Core purpose of visuals: (portfolio, press, planning, awards, social media, archival)


2. DESIGN INTENT & FOCUS

  • What design narrative or concept should the visuals reflect?

  • Are there key materials, details, spatial ideas, or gestures to highlight?

  • Which spaces are essential to document (e.g. entrance sequence, communal areas, circulation)?


3. STYLE PREFERENCES

  • Preferred tone: (e.g. objective, atmospheric, cinematic)

  • Are there any reference images or past shoots you admire?

  • Is human presence important?

    • If yes, will models/staff be provided?

    • If people are identifiable, please confirm availability of model releases.


4. USAGE & DELIVERY

  • Where will the visuals be used?

    • Print: brochures, exhibitions, editorials

    • Digital: website, social media, newsletters

    • Press: articles, PR materials

  • Any special format needs? (aspect ratios, resolution minimums, space for text overlays)


5. SCHEDULE CONSIDERATIONS

  • Preferred shoot dates and times of day

  • Seasonal or weather preferences

  • Any known access limitations or usage restrictions?


6. PERMISSIONS & LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Any public land, street-facing, or park areas involved?

    • If yes, we may need permissions or permits.

  • Would you like drone imagery?

    • Requires advance notice for CAA compliance and location checks.
